An
Exercise in Rocketry at Vanderbilt
Dyer Observatory
Launch Platform
Use a 9" section of 4" PVC pipe. The
collar at the bottom makes the unit 12" tall.
I drilled holes in the top edge of the pipe so the launch rod could slip in.
I used .125 rod,
30" long. Screw a scrap piece of board to your 2"x6" platform,
shave the corners
of the block so the rectangular piece
will fit a round hole, and then screw the
PVC to the scrap board. All the holes were cut with a hole saw. If you can
get/borrow aa 1.5" hole saw/bit, (like the kind they use for cutting
door sets) it will make your
life easier. The holes on the top are for designs with lower fins.
