The ISSAT Project is an ongoing collaboration by amateur astronomers to place a telescope on the International Space Station. This telescope would be dedicated to amateur and student use.You want to read the FAQs about this endevour to learn more specifics. Right now the project is in a phase where ground-based instruments are being used to take requests for astronomical images for various purposes. Teachers and students may request images for class projects. Amateurs may want to do photometry on some celestial objects, others may simply want an image to see what the capability of a remote robotic telescope may do.
The ISSAT SOLAR SYSTEM STATION at VANDERBILT DYER OBSERVATORY was conceived as a result of the desire by many ISSAT group members for the ISS instrument to have some solar capability. Obviously, the primary telescope on the ISS will not be capable of viewing the Sun, perhaps another telescope specially filtered for Solar imaging could be mounted off-axis so that a choice could be made between the two optical systems. Coupling with Vanderbilt University's Dyer Observatory, we are in the process of installing a robotic telescope mount that will carry at least two solar instruments with perhaps a third instrument for night capability. Coronado Technology Group has loaned Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory and the ISSAT project an incredible MAXSCOPE 90. We are currently mounting the telescope and will bring it online the first week of May.
We
want to thank our contributors and sponsors to this particular part of the ISSAT/Vanderbilt
Dyer Observatory project.
LIVEWAVE
Provided our streaming equipment, a remote control
camera (which is often active in the dome) and tons of technical expertise.
SUNGLOW RANCH (One
the very best vacation spots in the west) Provided a Paramount Robotic Mount
for our telescope. With this mount, the ISSAT Solar System Station can be operated
over the internet.
CORONADO
TECHNOLOGY GROUP has graciously provided their MAXSCOPE 90 for daily use
in streaming the Sun in Ha.
The ASTRONOMICAL
LEAGUE For their generous sponsorship, support
and encouragement in all parts of the ISSAT Projects.
