" Eyes on The Skies" Teacher Workshop

A realistic look at how scientists explore the final frontier.

Summer Institute

Join us for a weeklong adventure exploring the last frontier, space. This activity and fun filled workshop will give teachers an opportunity to interact with nationally known scientists, astronauts and astronomers. Dyer Observatory, a Nashville treasure, will be the site of this standards-based professional development.

DATES FOR THE 2008 WORKSHOPS ARE:

June 9-13, July 21-25, Eyes-on-the-Skies Teacher Workshops

Teachers will receive an honorarium for travel and expenses for the week.

Some of the instructors will include:

Rick Chappell, Director of Dyer Observatory, the director of science and research communications and research professor of physics at Vanderbilt University, and former astronaut.

Bob O’Dell, Distinguished Research Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Vanderbilt University—Research with the Hubble Space Telescope

Rocky Alvey, Assistant Director of Dyer Observatory


Laurette Cousineau, Independence High School teacher and former curriculum specialist, Williamson County Schools

Judy Butler, Director of Education and Public Outreach, Center of Excellence Information Systems, Tennessee State University
