Summer
Camps
Do your kids think the world revolves around them? They'll find
out differently at the 2008 Space Exploration Science Camps! The
camps are held at Dyer Observatory and focus on a mix of astronomy
and space exploration with hands-on engaging learning adventures.
The camp curriculum was created by an expert team of astronomy professors,
space scientists and area science teachers, led by Dr. Rick Chappell,
former chief scientist at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center.
Campers will meet
in Dyer Observatory where they will have access
to an extensive astronomy library, a computer center featuring astronomy
software, and a mission control center where telescopes around the
country are controlled robotically. An impressive dome on top of
the observatory houses the large Seyfert Telescope.
The Space Exploration
Science Camps support middle-school students in their exploration
of the worlds of science, math and technology, and opens up their
minds to future career possiblities in these fields.
